BSR is also a founding member of EMPRESA, the Forum on Business and Social Responsibility in the Americas. EMPRESA is a new coalition of business organizations whose mission is to strengthen and establish national and regional business organizations committed to social responsibility in Latin America by promoting information exchange, collaboration, education, networking and partnerships among these groups, their members and other sectors. Highlights of EMPRESA's accomplishments include:
- EMPRESA has helped launch new business organizations in Brazil, Chile, Panama and El Salvador and is providing assistance in the establishment of similar groups in Mexico and Argentina.
- EMPRESA has begun to gather and share information about leadership business practices in the hemisphere, promote the exchange of research findings, help train the staff of member organizations and identify and recruit speakers for national and international gatherings of business leaders.
- EMPRESA has co-sponsored three hemispheric conferences on corporate social responsibility in the Americas over the last three years. The conferences, held in Miami, Sao Paulo, and Mexico City, have attracted in total more than 1000 business leaders from 20 countries and featured presentations from prominent hemispheric business leaders on how to implement more responsible business practices in the region.
- EMPRESA has secured initial seed funding from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and a group of Founding Sponsors (both companies and individuals) to launch this hemispheric alliance. Additional funding is currently being sought to expand and scale the initiative throughout the entire region of the Americas.
