Companies adopting and using AI systems lack visibility into the carbon intensity, energy consumption, and resource demands of these models and data services. While awareness of AI’s environmental impacts is growing, the absence of consistent corporate data and disclosure limits transparency and accountability across the AI value chain. This challenge is compounded by the rapid pace of technological change and expanding infrastructure, which makes it difficult for companies to accurately assess the environmental impact of AI solutions on energy, water, land, and materials.
Sustainable AI Procurement will bring together downstream AI developers and deployers committed to the responsible procurement and use of AI technologies to integrate sustainability into procurement decisions, standardize disclosure, and set shared expectations for AI developers.
