A Futurist Meets the C-Suite: Making This Moment Matter

This virtual panel event will discuss how business and philanthropy drive progress on climate, equity, and justice amid uncertainty. Jacob Park, futurist at BSR’s Sustainable Futures Lab, will begin by sharing scenarios likely to play out as the world emerges from the COVID-19 crisis. A discussion of what they mean for business and philanthropy will follow.

The current crisis has brought to the fore some of the most salient issues we face as humanity—from the scale of people living at the edge of poverty, to huge inequities in access to technology and healthcare, to the increasing disruptions we face from a warming climate. We know the future will look different—the decisions we make now will either leapfrog our progress on these major challenges, or cause us to slide back in time as we retrench and de-risk. But there are huge signs of hope—companies re-skilling workers, new innovations in distance learning and collaboration, and rapid innovation across countless industries.

Our panel will take a deep look at the future scenarios and choices confronting business and philanthropic leaders today, asking:

  • What are the possible scenarios for how the next 1-2 years play out, and what are the variables impacting those scenarios?
  • What does that mean for how leaders make decisions about investments in sustainability and social impact?
  • What is the business case for focusing on these critical issues now?
  • In any scenario, what role do business and philanthropy need to play to ensure we come out stronger than we went in?
  • What are the tools organizational leaders and change-makers can use to navigate their own organizational planning and decision-making?

A calendar invitation and virtual meeting link will be provided upon receipt of RSVP.
