Job Description
As a Strategic Sustainability Topic Developer: Human & Children’s Rights, you will be the main subject-matter expert on human rights and children’s rights for the total IKEA value chain (Range, Supply and Retail). You will work closely with the Head of Fair & Equal | Strategic Topic Leader to define and continually develop the Fair & Equal agenda for the total IKEA value chain (Range, Supply and Retail), and support necessary business integration.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and continually improve needed strategic content in the Fair & Equal agenda connected to human rights and children’s rights, such as strategic messaging, policies, definitions, position statements, etc., and secure it’s aligned with the latest science and external requirements.
- Support in developing and continually improving strategic commitments and goals, and identifying needed strategic and tactical movements to reach commitments and goals, and act as input to core IKEA strategies and Business Plans in Range, Supply and Retail
- Secure awareness and understanding of the IKEA business responsibility to respect human rights and children’s rights and ensure integration into the business agenda across the IKEA value chain via the Strategic Topic Leaders – considering both direct and indirect impact on people and societies due to IKEA activities.
- Together in the Strategic Sustainability Topic team ensure a holistic strategic sustainability agenda.
- Support in the implementation of our human rights due-diligence process
- Support the double-materiality assessment and the governance and requirements it sets.
- Support in developing and continually improving connected performance frameworks and KPIs to enable the organization to measure progress versus these.
- Support in building necessary business capabilities and secure compliance towards global agreements, standards, and legislation by working together with stakeholders across the IKEA business.
- Support in handling of media interviews and scrutiny.
- Engage with external partners and IKEA public affairs function to drive and influence a broader human rights & children’s rights agenda, especially the rights of vulnerable groups.
- Contribute with content to the annual IKEA Sustainability Report.
- You will report to the Global Sustainability Strategic Topic Manager.
Qualifications
Have a Master’s degree in Human Rights (or similar) and at least 5 years of experience of working with human rights and/or children’s rights on a corporate level.
To be successful in this role we believe that you are able to:
- Lead in a fact- and value-based approach with a people-centred approach where human & children’s rights are at the heart.
- Make the complex simple for the many in order to enable the business to take necessary actions connected to human & children’s rights.
- Deep understanding of human & children’s rights and translate into what they mean from a business context.
- Good understanding of legislation connected to human rights and children’s rights.
- Understand how human rights and children’s rights connect to other sustainability topics and contribute to avoiding a siloed approach.
- Work together with stakeholders across the IKEA business on different levels to ensure necessary movements happen and needed business capabilities are developed.
- Find new solutions to new problems, and dare to be different in a constructive manner.
- Engage with external partners and together drive and influence agendas that are key to contribute to safeguarding human rights and children’s rights.
This is a permanent position based in Älmhult, working on behalf of entire Inter IKEA Group and the total IKEA value chain, including Range, Supply and Retail.
