Over the last few months at BSR, we’ve been examining the changing nature of leadership today. When we launched theBSR Report 2010, we highlighted four dimensions of leadership we think are essential for business to make a meaningful difference: Set ambitious targets; learn from the margins; invest in infrastructures that support sustainability; and sail fearlessly toward the future.
Our thinking was that with more transparency, and more people accessing and sharing information, leadership would begin to look a bit different. It would be a little more flexible, it would involve more listening (and communicating), and it would respect the diversity of the people, opinions, and institutions shaping our future.
We’ve adopted the “Redefining Leadership” theme for this year’s BSR Conference, and we’ll explore this idea throughout the year with viewpoints from guest bloggers. Specifically, we’re asking business and sustainability leaders three questions:
- What does the notion of redefining leadership for sustainability mean to you?
- In your opinion, what are the most significant sustainable business trends of the last decade?
- When it comes to promising opportunities for sustainable business now and in the next five years, where are you placing your bets?
