This working paper introduces the qualitative impact of the Women in Factories China program over its first 18 months of implementation in partnership with the Walmart Foundation. The report focuses particularly on how the program is creating access to good jobs that enable strong livelihoods, a key pillar of developing an inclusive economy.

The program’s success over this period, delivering more than 330,500 hours of training to more than 22,000 workers across 36 factories, only tells one part of the story: The paper also shares testimonials gleaned from more than 50 interviews with individual participants on the program’s direct effect on their lives.

To accompany the report, we have also produced a short video that highlights women’s experiences in the Women in Factories and other women’s-empowerment programs.
