Job Description

Primary Role

The successful candidate is responsible for leading Shire’s Supplier Diversity program, facilitating the Supplier Relationship Management framework and managing Global Procurement’s compliance and support of Shire’s corporate and social responsibility initiatives. This role requires a significant amount of external and internal engagement, utilizing strong interpersonal skills, influence management and change management. Key stakeholders and partners include Category Heads/Managers, Legal, Finance Operations and External Customers. This role will also participate in furthering the development of the Procurement Center of Excellence through special project support, global procurement programs and/or transformation. He/she will implement and ensure execution of key initiatives against timeline and deliverables, including identifying bottlenecks, resolving issues and driving towards effective and standardized completion. This role strives to deliver ongoing value in enhancement of procurement maturity for Shire’s procurement organization.

Responsibilities

60% Supplier Diversity and Supplier Relationship Management

  • Manage Shire’s Supplier Diversity Program including creating strategy, managing the collection and reporting of utilization metrics of diverse suppliers and designing and implement internal/external outreach programs
  • Responsible for creating and managing Shire’s annual Small Business Administration Subcontracting Plan as well as filing all required government reports
  • Develop, implement and manage supplier diversity and corporate responsibility contract language to ensure Shire’s compliance to contractual commitments. Manage the inclusion of this contract language into third party contracts, as appropriate
  • Develop and create formal document of supplier diversity policies and utilization procedures
  • Represent Shire to national, regional and local organizations that promote, support and provide access to qualified diverse businesses (e.g., Minority, Women Owned and Socially/Economically Disadvantaged business councils and business development conferences, etc.)
  • Assist in identifying potential Small, Minority, Women, Veteran Owned Business Enterprises (S/MWVBE) and other categories of socially and economically disadvantaged business enterprises as required by governmental agencies
  • Represent Shire to Develop internal supplier networking opportunities
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of “preferred suppliers” for Shire commodities; provide internal exposure of identified suppliers
  • Liaise with Finance Operations to maintain data integrity with the Shire Supplier Management System and SAP Vendor Master database; ensures Procurement’s approval of new suppliers
  • Formalize supplier business reviews with the goal of increasing performance and minimizing business disruption

40% Sustainability

  • Manage Procurement’s compliance and support of Shire’s corporate and social responsibility initiatives including serving as Procurement’s Responsibility Sponsor to ensure that Shire’s suppliers adhere to well-established Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), as well as comply with all legal and regulatory requirements, including environmental health and safety standards, diversity, and human rights. Foster communications with suppliers to share best practices, improve services, and contain costs.
  • Liaises with Procurement Compliance and Risk Management Lead to ensure suppliers adhere to EH&S standards and demonstrate good corporate citizenship
  • Serve as a general liaison between the supplier community, corporate responsibility community and Shire

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 – 7 years’ experience in Procurement
  • Previous experience in and knowledge of Supplier Diversity, Sustainability, Social Responsibility and/or Supplier Relationship Management roles strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in strategic sourcing, category management and supplier relationship management required
  • Professional certification in purchasing or supply chain is desirable, e.g. from ISM (CPSD, CPSM, CSM, CPM), from APICS (CPIM, CIRM). CPSD certification from ISM is highly desired.
  • Prior working knowledge of biotech, pharmaceutical or life sciences industry preferred
  • BA or BS required; MBA a plus
  • Solid understanding of procurement best practices, policies and tools preferred
  • MS office skills (e.g., Excel and PowerPoint) required. Strong analytical and reporting skills to manage data and information to report and update progress against program objectives.
