About the role

Our Communities and Social Performance Area of Expertise (AoE) is Rio Tinto’s central technical CSP function. It provides support to the business to build respectful and trusted relationships with host communities and deliver sustainable improvements in social and economic outcomes. The CSP AoE works closely with CSP practitioners and leaders, in addition to related functions across the business to build technical capability, support social performance delivery, monitor and respond to emerging trends, and provide assurance and risk management. The CSP AoE works closely with HSES to maintain Rio Tinto’s management systems, standards and reporting processes.

We are looking for a Principal Advisor, CSP Governance to join the assurance, risk and governance stream within the AoE. The team oversees and ensures robust CSP assurance practice, well understood CSP risks and controls, and fit-for-purpose systems, standards and reporting.

Reporting to the Manager CSP Assurance, Risk and Governance and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Communities and Social Performance Area of Expertise, you will:

  • Maintain and update CSP control documentation to ensure it is risk aligned and meets the needs of the business and external expectations
  • Support the awareness, deep understanding and accessibility of CSP’s standards, group procedures and guidance across the group
  • Together with the capability team, develop CSP technical guidance to support the detailed implementation of standards and procedures
  • Keep abreast of international frameworks and standards and social performance requirements and ensure they are reflected within Rio Tinto standards and technical guidance; and
  • Support other CSP assurance, risk and governance requirements and engage on other CSP activities and projects as needed

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the wellbeing and safety of yourself and your team
  • Tertiary qualifications in social sciences or related discipline
  • Demonstrated expertise in communities and social performance, including diverse and complex cultural and community challenges
  • Demonstrated field expertise in implementing communities and social performance standards and systems
  • Experience in project management and working through a networked organisation in achieving results
  • An ability to simplify and communicate complex technical CSP information to various audiences
  • An improvement focus and attention to detail
  • Effective influencing skills when engaging with senior leaders internally and externally, including superior written and verbal communication skills
