The Walt Disney Company is seeking a graduate student for a part-time internship in the Global Public Policy Department. The intern will have an opportunity to work with talented professionals who are leaders in their field, while being exposed to cutting edge policy issues, with a particular focus on human rights and global supply chains. This is a great opportunity to work on issues that are likely to have a significant impact on the Company’s business, brands and consumers—as well as society more broadly—and play a role in developing effective strategies to address those issues.

Responsibilities:

A Day in the Life…

This individual will work with Global Public Policy’s leadership in the following key areas: Strategic Policy Formulation-Identify emerging supply chain public policy issues related to The Walt Disney Company’s mid- and long-term business plans globally, and help develop internal and external policy positions, strategies and analyses to influence the external environment and advance Disney’s business priorities.

Proactive Analysis of Emerging Issues-Conduct research on emerging issues, analyze implications for Disney, and support communication activities to keep leadership informed. Proactively identify opportunities that business strategies and product plans create to advance policy goals as well as emerging social, political, economic, and public policy issues and trends that create business opportunities for Disney globally.

Government and Stakeholder Relations-Identify opportunities where Disney can meaningfully advance its policy agenda and recommend concrete strategies to address issues based on positions taken; support leadership to identify relationships that need to be cultivated to implement these strategies effectively.

Basic Qualifications:

What we are looking for…(Basic Qualifications)

  • Demonstrated interest in the connection between business, public policy and international policy issues
  • Basic understanding of key global policy issues, including human rights, child rights and safety, consumer products, global supply chains, and related international institutions and players
  • Basic understanding of public affairs and government relations considerations in the policy process
  • High level familiarity with the workings of NGOs, domestic and foreign governments, international organizations or industry groups
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity, thoroughness, flexibility, initiative and teamwork
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent judgment and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to successfully balance multiple tasks and effectively meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to summarize complex matters into concise and action-oriented executive briefings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship or work experience in business, public policy and international policy issues

Required Education

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program
  • Pursuing a graduate degree with coursework or studies related to International Relations, Public Policy, Sustainable Business, Human Rights, or related fields

Preferred Education

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Graduate or undergraduate course work in corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability, human rights and global supply chains strongly preferred
  • Pursuing a JD or MBA with coursework or studies related to International Relations, Public Policy, Sustainable Business, Human Rights, or related fields

Additional Information:

  • The approximate dates of this internship are January through June 2020
  • Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within the past six (6) months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Housing: Interns must provide their own housing for the duration of their internship program.
  • Transportation: Interns must have reliable transportation to get to and from work for the duration of their internship program.
