As critical enablers of the digital economy and the rapid expansion of AI, data center and digital infrastructure companies face growing pressure to expand capacity while managing impacts on energy systems, water resources, supply chains, workers, and local communities. Companies that proactively understand and manage these environmental and social impacts across their value chains are better positioned to:

  • Scale responsibly by identifying and addressing environmental and social impacts associated with the infrastructure that powers AI.
  • Reduce operational and supply chain risk by anticipating constraints related to energy, water, critical infrastructure, and hardware supply.
  • Strengthen resilience and stakeholder trust by supporting responsible sourcing, community engagement, and sustainable infrastructure development.
  • Meet evolving regulatory and investor expectations around climate, human rights, responsible AI governance, and supply chain due diligence.

The Responsible Data Center Development Working Group provides data center developers, owners, hyperscalers, their investors and business partners with the opportunity to:

  • Exchange insights and best practices with industry peers across the data center value chain to advance practical solutions that address community concerns and the environmental impacts of data center development.
  • Access and shape the creation of tools and resources to support proactive community engagement, impact management, and social investment while contributing to the development of new industry-aligned tools.
  • Address real-world implementation challenges across regions and share practical, context-specific approaches.
  • Benefit from a trusted, pre-competitive space to explore specific challenges, share effective approaches, develop shared resources, and strengthen capacity.
