The UK Modern Slavery Act has galvanized companies into reporting on slavery and human trafficking in their operations. As companies prepare their initial responses to the new requirements, they face challenges in deciding how to report in compliance with the law and determining whether these requirements meet the external reality of a complicated and systemic issue. Operating beyond compliance with the law is considered good practice now, but as stakeholder pressures and company efforts mature, going beyond compliance will become expected practice.
