The UN Standards of Conduct and the Private Sector’s Role in Advancing LGBTQ+ Inclusion

As global pride celebrations around the world come to a close and in occasion of WorldPride in Copenhagen, BSR and the Confederation of Danish Industry are pleased to host a breakfast event on the Private Sector's Role in Advancing LGBTQ+ Inclusion. A livestream of the event is also available.

In the last 20 years, society has made great strides in the promotion and protection of the human rights of LGBTQ+ people around the world. The private sector has equally advanced LGBTQ+ inclusion through D&I programs and strategies, sponsorship, inclusive advertising and advocacy. While the gains made over the last  decades are plentiful, significant work is yet to be done and LGBTQ+ groups continue to be at risk of discrimination.

Responding to this gap, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) adopted a global instrument to guide the private sector in respecting human rights and promoting inclusion—the UN Standards of Conduct for Business Tackling Discrimination against LGBTI People (the Standards). Taking a standpoint in the Standards, this event will explore how Nordic companies are advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace and their communities, and how advocacy and collaborative approaches can accelerate this vision.
