How Companies Can Advance LGBTIQ+ Equality and Inclusion in the Workplace and Beyond

The past decade has seen significant progress in many parts of the world for LGBTIQ+ people, who have benefited from legal reforms and some shifts in social attitudes. However, such progress has been uneven, and LGBTIQ+ people of all ages across the globe continue to suffer from violations and abuse of their human rights.

The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) established the private sector’s responsibility to respect human rights across their value chain. The UN Standards of Conduct for Business on Tackling Discrimination against LGBTI People (the Standards) helped refine our understanding of what it means for companies to support LGBTIQ+ communities in the workplace and beyond.

Through our collaborative initiative the Partnership for Global LGBTI Equality (PGLE), BSR is thrilled to announce the recent launch of the UN LGBTIQ+ Standards Gap Analysis Tool, developed in partnership with the UN’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the World Economic Forum, and UN Global Compact. This Tool helps companies assess current policies and programs, highlight areas for improvement, and identify opportunities to set future corporate goals and targets on their journey to implement the Standards.

In this webinar, PGLE and BSR will provide:

  • A brief overview of the history of PGLE and our activities
  • How the Standards can help companies further their approach to inclusive practices that benefit LGBTIQ+ communities
  • How the Tool can be used to align company practices to the Standards

We will also hear from external stakeholders on how the Standards and tool have helped shape their approach.
