On March 10, the Members of the European Parliament adopted the JURI Committee’s Report, calling on the Commission to present a legislation that ensures companies are held accountable and liable when they harm or contribute to harming human rights, the environment, and good governance. In line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the EU upcoming directive will require companies to carry out effective due diligence to identify, prevent, and mitigate actual and potential impacts in their own operations, those of their business relationships under their control, and along their value chain.
