Slavery is illegal in almost every country on earth. Yet modern slavery, in all its various forms, is tragically widespread.
The U.K. Modern Slavery Act and other new laws require companies to disclose actions taken to eradicate modern slavery. It is no longer enough to respond reactively or only to isolated reports. Businesses have an obligation to ensure that their entire value chains are slave-free and to empower their business partners to do so as well.
What’s less clear, however, is how businesses can eradicate modern slavery in meaningful ways. The scale and complexity of the problem is too large for individual companies to tackle alone.
