Developing a circular economy could save hundreds of billions of dollars in material costs, as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation has highlighted. Consumer products, motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and electronics are among the industries with the greatest possibilities to benefit. To achieve this, however, we face a challenging transition that requires more than just reducing waste and increasing recycling: It demands redesign and reevaluation of raw materials, products, production systems, value chains, and business models.
