Team Lead, Data Center Sustainability

at Google

Job Description

Google’s projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus. As a Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating goals to project stakeholders. Your projects often span offices, time zones and hemispheres, and it’s your job to keep all the players coordinated on the project’s progress and deadlines.

As a Team Lead, you’ll evaluate team processes, tools, program metrics, and documentation and construct solutions and standards that remove barriers to scale. You will help facilitate all project-related communications to team members, leaders and other stakeholders. This role requires you to be an expert planner, a strong mentor and a flexible thinker who can balance multiple objectives and teams in multiple locations.

In this role, you will manage a team of technical experts to develop and lead execution of Google’s global data center sustainability strategy. You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing efforts to drive sustainability goals and programs across design, construction, and operations of Google’s global fleet of data centers.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google’s product portfolio possible. We’re proud to be our engineers’ engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We’re always on call to keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

  • Manage and develop a team of Program Managers and Technical Program Managers; Facilitate teamwork and decision-making by building team morale and cohesion through regular communication, activities, and standards of expertise, trust and dependability; Empower team members to build their leadership skills and scale their impacts.
  • Be a central contributor to Google’s global sustainability strategy; Collaborate with engineering, operations, policy, procurement, communications, EHS, sustainability teams, our global Lead for Sustainability, and other key stakeholders to analyze progress and make recommendations.
  • Become a thought leader and industry influencer on data center sustainability; Gain recognition as an authority in this domain by maintaining deep technical, business, and industry expertise and sharing it internally and externally.
