The Sustainability Operations & Business Integration Consultant will be responsible for overseeing and driving the integration of sustainability into First Citizens’ strategy, planning and operations, with a focus on climate and human rights impact as well as in alignment with the company’s broad mandate across ESG. Additionally, this position will be responsible for overseeing and driving the integration of sustainability into client facing solutions, experiences, related business operations and risk management processes. They will be part of the Sustainability team and function as a subject matter expert and resource to FCB’s various relevant business functions and units, providing guidance, support and project management coordination to internal and external stakeholders.
This position will lead the annual GHG inventory and CDP data process working closely with carbon measurement vendor, internal stakeholders and data owners, including data collection, calculation, verification, and disclosures. They will help develop the company wide decarbonization strategy and oversee the planning and implementation roadmap, in collaboration with relevant business units and stakeholders. They will manage the EACs and offsets procurement, verification strategy and process including RFP and contracting. Additionally, they will coordinate and support the sustainable sourcing policy development, integration and management in partnership with sourcing, procurement, and third party risk including but not limited to vendor emissions inventory, sustainability integration into RFPs and VRA processes and documentation. Additionally, they will manage supply chain or client generated survey or audit inquiry responses related to ESG and sustainability.
This position will lead the crafting and execution of First Citizens’ enterprise-wide responsible investing and lending framework across the company’s businesses, including supporting specific business unit policies and procedures development, implementation in collaboration with the business unit leaders, investment and product experts, compliance and risk managers, and external consultants. Additionally, they will manage and collaborate with cross-functional working groups incubating and building client facing sustainability solutions, products and services for customers and partners across our core businesses, including but not limited to banking, lending, investments, and advisory and transactional services. They will develop and deliver education, training content and opportunities internally and externally, to support sustainability business integration initiatives and activities. The manager will coordinate and contribute to client facing sustainability focused thought leadership content, communications strategy, support our annual on demand ESG reporting and disclosures requirements.
This position will also be responsible for dashboard and data metrics for sustainability commitments and oversee the renewal or expansion and potentially development and execution of new related goals or commitments. They will collaborate with cross-functional sustainability disclosures team including financial reporting, legal, and accounting to coordinate voluntary and regulated ESG disclosures and communications.

Responsibilities
- Business Strategy - Evaluates current plans, processes, and requirements to identify factors negatively affecting the business unit. Develops expert strategies and solutions to address identified issues, coordinating business efforts to achieve success.
- Team Leadership - Leads special projects, serving as a resource to wider business unit or organization. Utilizes expertise to provide guidance, feedback, and direction on complex matters. Assists in the communication of performance results and expected behaviors. May oversee daily workflow for analyst team.
- Reporting - Produces reports based on analysis, industry trends, and process capabilities. Identifies patterns, problems, and areas of improvement, and tracks effectiveness of implemented enhancements. Creates specifications, project plans, and other documentation in support of business initiatives. May review or verify reports of team.
- Data Analysis - Sources, compiles, and interprets data. Performs complex data analysis, effectively communicating and directing analysis output.
The base pay for this position is relative to your experience but the range is generally $116,659 to $202,209 per year. This position is eligible for variable compensation, which may be in the form of incentive, bonus, or commission pay. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of experience in Business Strategy, Project Planning, and Financial Services industry -OR- High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Business Strategy, Project Planning, and Financial Services industry
Additional Experience:
- GHG Accounting Required
- Experience working for or with a large financial institution, with knowledge of relevant products and services
- Advanced sustainability knowledge and how sustainability can play a role in the financial services industry, specifically investment and commercial banking, private banking, asset management, and venture capital
- Familiarity with climate disclosures, carbon measurement, carbon reduction strategies including EAC and carbon offset marketplace and procurement
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written presentation communication and analytical skills including Excel and Power Point
- Ability to collaborate with multiple teams and foster teamwork, work independently to drive results, with a strong work ethic and willingness to “roll up your sleeves”
- Experience working with and managing external consultants
