Summary and Qualifications:

The primary purpose and function of the Specialist, Sustainable Procurement is to implement the strategy of our supplier sustainability and supplier diversity compliance and performance program. This work is centered on managing environmental and social impacts in our supply chain, with the ultimate objective of advancing the veterinary profession through care for people and planet. Our priority environmental impacts relate to climate change and waste, and our priority social impacts relate to human rights and health and safety. This role is responsible for contributing and implementing a company-wide responsible sourcing strategy for MVH, including collaborating on developing relevant policies and standards, assessments, product sustainability criteria, goals and programs to drive sustainability improvements in our procurement practices. The role will also carry out performance reporting and data collection. It is a business-critical role, essential to our global Sustainable in a Generation Plan commitments, our Purpose and the expectations of key stakeholders around the world.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Support the strategic development and continuous improvement of MVH’s sustainable supply chain work to improving environmental and social impacts in our supply chain.
  • Ensure that the programs are robust, credible, and impactful in driving improved changes on our priority impact areas.
  • Serve as subject matter expert to teams within Mars Veterinary Health as they deploy sustainable supply chain programs and initiatives.
  • Support development and management of digital processes to collect program data; create and manage dashboard of key performance indicators; track suppliers activated, scored and engaged and help improve data collection related to sustainable procurement and supplier diversity.
  • Support the development of internal communication, training and capability building to create widespread awareness, champions and support for program goals, progress and impacts.
  • Support the development of targets and develop glidepaths for supply chain sustainability and responsible for reporting on progress to various internal stakeholders; in partnership with MVH Sustainability and Mars, Inc. Responsible Sourcing team, develop product level sustainability criteria and vet product substitutions according to criteria.
  • Monitor and analyze strategies and programs of peers and leaders and tracks supply chain related ESG issues to inform MVH’s best in class approach.
  • Leads the coordination of embedding the Mars Supplier Code of Conduct into all supplier agreements.
  • Works closely with MVH Sustainability team, Responsible Sourcing team, and Mars Supplier Diversity team to ensure alignment of approaches and sharing of data and performance.
  • Manage supplier questionnaire (e.g. EcoVadis) deployment, tracking and management, supporting commercial team and working closely with suppliers as needed.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Supply Chain & Logistics, Business Administration, Finance/Accounting or other business field is preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience in sustainability is required, with experience in supply chain sustainability and related issues such as human rights and social risks, environmental impacts such as climate change and waste.
  • 4+ years of experience with a demonstrated understanding of Sustainable Procurement & Procurement Excellence are required.
  • A knowledge of Sustainable Procurement, regulations and legal compliance with demonstrated knowledge in environmental and social supply chain issues management, and criteria development and analysis for sustainable product solutions is preferred.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools Suite is required.
  • Experience managing complex internal and external stakeholder relationships, and ability to collaborate across various functional groups with various cultures is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written English proficiency, and ability to collaborate with a global team is required.
  • Health care background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) is preferred.

Salary: $75,029 – $112,543
