Job Description

As our Sustainability manager, you will lead the execution of an industry leading factory compliance and sustainability program in home furnishings. You will have ownership in managing remediation and capacity building at factories to impact long term improvements. You will promote awareness of our program expectations to local country team as well as our vendors and factories through regular trainings and communications. You’ll build effective relationships with external and internal business partners with the goal of having the most optimized and sustainable supply chain across the region.

Job Responsibilities & Duties

Social and environmental performance:

  • Accountable for vendor and factory performance and proactively customize pre-audit capability building efforts and post-audit remediation to enable sustained improvements
  • Manage third party audit program including scheduling, audit quality assurance, tracking performance and cost management.
  • Build effective relationships with in-country office team to solicit their commitment and support to impact improvements at partner factories
  • Lead the development and delivery of key training to factories and local country team to increase education and awareness on Williams-Sonoma compliance protocols and sustainability expectations
  • Act as a local law expert for factories and in-country teams to provide guidance and direction on adhering to the local law requirements
  • Research and recommend compliance and sustainability best practices within the industry/region to share with factories as well as internally to continuously improve Williams-Sonoma program.
  • Be a key thought partner to support senior management team to establish and execute our policies and protocols

Social sustainability

  • Manage partner relationship and execute programs with our partners e.g., FTUSA, NEST, Vision Spring, HER projects, etc. across key factories in the region
  • Coach and integrate an environmental specialist as one sustainability team

Communication and engagement

  • Represent WSI and its interests in multi-stakeholder groups, including external stakeholders, government officials, NGOs etc. as directed by Management
  • Escalate potential crisis situations to management, as appropriate
  • Manage regular reporting requirements as directed by management

Competencies & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Social Studies or a related field;
  • 6 years or above experience in the field of social responsibility either at an audit firm or at a retailer (auditing, developing or enforcing remediation)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong information-seeking skills and a drive to make things happen
  • Ability to understand challenges or underlying concerns, share ideas and develop effective responses or elevate to higher management
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a diverse group
  • Ability to network, influence, and utilize internal and external resources
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to motivate and mentor others within work group
  • Ability to lead initiatives and project teams
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Indonesian
  • Proficiency in Windows XP, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
