Please note: This position has the possibility to work remotely up to 100% of the time. The position will require occasional travel to the Phoenix corporate offices and/or site locations. This position may be performed anywhere in the U.S. except California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky and New York. Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors. Should the positions shift to in-office work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time should the position meet the established eligibility for these benefits.

Description

Create and identify social investment strategies and develop a robust portfolio of enterprise and regional initiatives that increase the resilience of host communities and project affected people to demonstrate the delivery of social and economic benefit. Position the company as a leader in social value creation and build partnerships to address and advance issues of importance to the company, its operations, employees, and communities. Source, develop and maintain relationships with NGOs and other civil society / community organizations and develop interventions to increase local capacity. Work in partnership with other internal departments, groups, and operations across the corporation to maximize social investments and realize positive business benefits. Manage all aspects of strategic grant-making, including budgeting, concept development, partner identification and vetting, co-design, evaluation metrics, implementation, monitoring and reporting.

  • Strategy: Proactively develop social investment initiatives from concept to implementation for the enterprise aligned with the company’s three social investment priorities (Education & Workforce Training, Economic Opportunity, and Capacity & Leadership) linked to resilience. Skillfully align in-depth knowledge of business risks and opportunities with deep awareness of socio-economic conditions at the community level to best deliver on the company’s social ambition to work in partnership with our host communities and Indigenous Peoples to earn and maintain their trust and contribute to long-term shared value and resilience. Expertly identify opportunities to build on existing initiatives to leverage and amplify investments and impacts. Lead ongoing analysis of strategy, social investment initiatives, giving practices/policies, and internal/external best practices for continuous improvement. Investigate other funding models or financing options to leverage resources for the benefit of communities, including social impact investing, loan guarantees, etc. as well as innovations in community-lead funding models or opportunities to engage stakeholders in decision-making. Influence local communities and bring expertise to bear (for example climate adaptation) in terms of drivers of resilience; train local partners and drive active participation.
  • Partner Cultivation: Source qualified partners with relevant expertise and capacity to co-design initiatives in priority areas (noted above), including but not limited to key community-based organizations, NGOs, bi-lateral or multi-lateral partners. Seek to incorporate opportunities for more experienced partners to build the capacity of smaller, lesser experienced or resourced partners at the community level during design and/or implementation
  • Program Management: Oversee the implementation, ongoing execution and enhancement of all social investment initiatives including existing enterprise initiatives (DreamBuilder, DreamCatcher, Dig Into Mining, etc.) as well as institutional giving programs such as site support programs, Mini Grants for Education, Employee Matching Gifts, United Way campaigns, Employee Volunteer Fund, Scholarship Programs, disaster funding and special initiatives. Monitor social investments/grants to recipient agencies/partners, including regular communications, problem-solving and all other technical assistance needed to ensure program success. Support the evaluation and outcome data collection and analysis throughout the grant term. Manage corporate contributions and event sponsorships (related to identified focus areas and opportunities for relationship development or key visibility).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Community or Public Relations, Social Work, Sociology / Social Science, Sustainable (or Economic) Development, Marketing, Business, or related field AND seven (7) years direct experience in corporate social investment, community relations or social performance in a corporate environment; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Community or Public Relations, Social Work, Sociology / Social Science, Sustainable (or Economic) Development, Marketing, Business, or related field and nine (9) years direct experience in corporate social investment, community relations or social performance in a corporate environment; OR
  • Associate’s degree in Community or Public Relations, Social Work, Sociology / Social Science, Sustainable (or Economic) Development, Marketing, Business, or related field and eleven (11) years direct experience in corporate social investment, community relations or social performance in a corporate environment; OR
  • High School Diploma/GED and thirteen (13) years direct experience in corporate social investment, community relations or social performance in a corporate environment
  • Some knowledge of social performance and sustainable development
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, coordinating multiple projects and details simultaneously and in a timely manner, strong project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to interact will internal and external stakeholders all levels and build strong, positive relationships
  • Energetic, solution oriented, creative thinker and negotiator with a proven ability to motivate others, including team members who are not direct reports
  • Strong proficiency working with budgets
  • Strong knowledge of the NGO/nonprofit, public service, government sectors
  • Passion for improving communities while supporting the company’s social license to operate
  • Moderate to high level of participation in community activities/events will be required as part of the position (sometimes outside of normal work hours).
  • Ability to work with general office equipment such as a personal computer and keyboard. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Some travel to Freeport-McMoRan operating locations required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Mining or similar industry
  • Experience with CyberGrants management software strongly preferred

Criteria/Conditions:

  • Location requires mobility in an office environment and at large, industrial mine sites.
  • Ability to travel by car and airplane to various company locations.

Compensation:

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $102,000-$143,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
