Job Description

The Hershey Company is seeking a talented and passionate human rights professional to join the Global Sustainability Team. As a member of the team, the individual will support the delivery of The Hershey Company’s enterprise human rights program including monitoring trends in the field, ongoing strategy development and co-developing high-impact solutions to address human rights risks and impacts in Hershey’s own operations and supply chain. The Global Sustainability and Social Impact team has strategic responsibility for Hershey’s ESG activities and works with business partners across the organization to implement Hershey’s ESG policies and programs.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support delivery of the Hershey Company’s enterprise human rights agenda including assessing the impacts of human rights risks; developing mitigation strategies, policies, and remediation plans; and supporting on human rights reporting and stakeholder engagement efforts
  • Support delivery of key initiatives focused on Hershey’s salient human rights issues including:
    • implementation of current living wage & income programming in Hershey operations and supply chain
    • implementation of current responsible recruitment and worker engagement strategies including identifying continuous improvement opportunities in current programming
  • On an ongoing basis, monitor and track human rights and business trends and best practices including peer commitments; the legal & regulatory, and policy environment; and NGO and activist activity as well as engage in collaborative industry groups such as AIM-Progress to inform strategy
  • Review performance on human rights related ratings and rankings to inform opportunities for improvement in programming and current strategy
  • Identify the ongoing need for human rights education and training within the organization
  • Collaborate closely with Responsible Sourcing and procurement teams to align on human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) best practices and opportunities for continuous improvement in current programming

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required; Advanced degree in either Human Rights, Social Sustainability, Public Policy; Law, Political Science, human rights related course work is preferred Master’s Degree preferred (MBA, MS in HR, or advanced degree in OD).
  • 2-5 years of related work experience in human rights and social responsibility
  • Experience working on or implementing the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights and or the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises preferred
  • Experience working in or with diverse cultures, countries and geographies
  • Experience in agriculture and or manufacturing supply chains preferred
  • Human rights impact assessment or social impact assessment experience preferred
  • Familiarity with living wage & income, responsible recruitment, and child labor issues and agendas highly beneficial
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office 365 Tools and Capabilities
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Experience with developing Power BI Dashboards or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, moving and managing projects with differing objectives, milestones and deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results with a strong sense of urgency
  • Self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity
