Written in partnership with CDP and the Carbon Trust, this report examines the current state of supplier performance on climate action.

"Missing Link: Harnessing the Power of Purchasing for a Sustainable Future" analyzes climate and water data disclosed by more than 4,300 suppliers of CDP's 89 supply chain members. The report reveals that suppliers reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 434 million tonnes in 2016—more than the total annual carbon emissions of France, with a cost savings of US$12.4 billion. Despite this progress, the report finds that only 22 percent of companies are actively working with suppliers on emissions reductions, only 16 percent are engaging suppliers on water use, and less than half have set climate targets.

The report underlines the importance of comprehensive supplier engagement and collaboration to achieve the transition to a low-carbon economy.
