The 2018 Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Principles and Criteria (P&C) contain a number of important provisions regarding the protection of children. Among other requirements, the P&C mandate RSPO members to adopt a formal child protection policy, implement monitoring processes, and train staff to ensure children in plantations are safe from harm and any form of exploitation. The RSPO is currently developing guidance on children’s rights for the palm oil industry to help its members understand and fulfill these requirements.

Wilmar International introduced its Child Protection Policy in 2018 as part of its commitment to safeguard children’s welfare throughout its operations and supply chain. To guide and support Wilmar suppliers and contractors in adhering to the Child Protection Policy, Wilmar, together with major palm oil buyers, is collaborating with BSR to develop a Child Protection Implementation Manual for its suppliers in Indonesia, which will be socialized through a series of supplier workshops across the country.

Join BSR, RSPO, and Wilmar as we discuss how we are working with other industry stakeholders to protect the welfare of children in the palm oil industry through these initiatives.
