Chris works with technology companies to develop and deploy technology responsibly in line with international standards, best practices, and nascent laws and regulations. He brings experience and expertise in trust and safety, human rights, content regulation, and understanding and addressing the impacts of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
Chris specializes in supporting technology companies with regulatory requirements that may touch on risks to people and society connected to their products and services, including risk assessments under the EU Digital Services Act and the UK Online Safety Act. He also leads company-wide human rights assessments and reviews of companies' human rights and online safety practices.
Prior to joining BSR, Chris spent eight years working to advance the rights to freedom of expression and privacy in the ICT sector, leading policy advocacy for over 90 global ICT companies, digital rights and press freedom groups, academics, and investors at the Global Network Initiative. He also facilitated independent, third-party assessment of ICT companies' human rights commitments under the GNI Principles. He previously worked for NGOs focused on post-conflict recovery and Middle East affairs.
Chris holds a BA in International Affairs from James Madison University.
