Scope 3 Category 11 (use of sold products) represents a majority of GHG emissions for software companies, who depend largely on data sourced from third-party service providers. Today’s lack of software-specific accounting guidance from leading standard setters, divergence in practices, and a lack of harmonized metrics from service providers, makes it difficult for companies to appropriately account for, measure, and decarbonize the downstream footprint of their sold products.
Given continued challenges, this roundtable will convene leading software companies, standard setters, cloud service providers, GHG accounting providers, and industry collaborations to workshop viable solutions to these challenges and explore opportunities to align across the ecosystem on product-use emissions accounting and ultimately advance emissions reductions.
