Joe Sellwood

With nearly 20 years of experience working with governments, business, and NGOs to develop cross-sector solutions to global sustainability challenges, Joe drives the strategic direction of BSR's initiatives in the South America region. Working in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Peru, and beyond South America in China, Indonesia, Japan, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Europe, Canada, and the United States, Joe helps companies in the food and agriculture, construction, energy, oil and gas, mining, information and communications technology, financial services, forestry, health care, logistics, pharmaceuticals, and paper and cellulose sectors define and implement corporate responsibility strategies and engage effectively with stakeholders.

Prior to joining BSR, Joe spent more than 10 years delivering on-the-ground sustainability solutions in emerging markets for leading national and global companies. Joe supported the formation of Instituto Ethos in São Paulo, Brazil, helped form two consultancies focused on sustainability strategy, and ran the Global Leadership Network as part of the sustainability think tank AccountAbility.  Joe has worked with the Inter-American Development Bank, Inter-American Foundation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Defense, USAID, the World Bank, and the International Finance Corporation.

Joe has an M.P.P. from the University of Maryland in Ecological Economics. He is also a Hoyer Regents Fellow and speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
