Alison Colwell

With years of experience working with bilateral and multilateral international development agencies, Alison brings a multifaceted work portfolio to BSR. Her talent for stakeholder engagement, cross-sector collaboration, and sustainability strategy development stems from a range of project experience in agencies that include the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank, the International Development Research Centre, and NGOs affiliated with the Organization of American States.

At BSR, Alison manages projects on human rights, stakeholder engagement, community development, and responsible labor. She has conducted field work with communities and stakeholders in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and North America. Her human rights project work with the extractives industry includes: the development of a human rights assessment tool and guidance, benchmark analyses, recommendations on how to implement the UN Principles for Business and Human Rights, and online human rights trainings.

Alison also led the human rights and labor conditions baseline assessment of sugarcane workers in the Dominican Republic as part of BSR’s DR-CAFTA project, and she has extensive stakeholder engagement experience for projects such as Better Work and Shell WindEnergy.

Alison holds an M.A. in Public Policy and Administration with a concentration in International Development from Carleton University in Canada and a B.Com. and a B.A. in Global Development Studies from Queen's University. Alison has lived in North America, South America, and Europe. She is fluent in English and Spanish and has French and Portuguese comprehension.
