Joanna contributes to BSR’s human rights practice in Asia Pacific and globally, bringing expertise on conflict and high-risk areas; community development; field research; and freedom of expression, privacy, and security issues.
She supports member companies in assessing their human rights risks and integrating human rights principles into their sustainability strategies.
Joanna is a trained anthropologist and former journalist who spent five years living in Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Prior to BSR, she researched and wrote about issues relating to public health, environmental pollution, and supply chains in Asia. She also worked for an international development NGO on program design and business development, fundraising close to US$6 million for women’s empowerment and gender-based violence projects.
She holds an M.A. with Honors in Social Anthropology from the University of Aberdeen.
