While it is the primary responsibility of governments to provide remedy through judicial, administrative, or legislative mechanisms, non-judicial remedies such as company or industry grievance mechanisms, ombudsmen processes, and mediation can be effective complements, enabling the early management and mitigation of concerns and disputes.

In a conversation with Caroline Rees—an expert on non-judicial grievance mechanisms at the Harvard Kennedy School and with the UN Special Representative for Business and Human Rights—we will explore how companies can set up these systems and discuss both their benefits and risks.
