About this role

The Strategy & Governance Manager will play a critical role in setting strategy and driving delivery across the three pillars of BT’s Responsible Tech and Human Rights strategy, which include:

  • Tech Governance: Embed BT’s responsible tech principles for consistent decision making, supported by enabling governance, culture and capacity building
  • Growth and Innovation: Leverage BT’s responsible approach to tech to differentiate existing products and propositions, and to lead in future growth areas
  • Engagement: Initiate a bold, open engagement programme to understand people’s hopes and expectations and learn out loud on tough tech questions

This is a business critical agenda, driven by expectations from consumers, customers, colleagues and investors, that goes to the core of BT’s future commercial growth, brand and reputation, and which cuts across all business units.

You’ll have the following responsibilities

  • Develop and implement our Responsible Tech & Human Rights strategy, ensuring alignment with BT’s purpose, strategy and governance structure
  • Continue integration of responsible tech and human rights risk in BT’s new Group risk framework
  • Keep pace with external best practice and emerging areas of risk and opportunity to inform continuous improvement plan, define priorities for the team, and identify strategic issues of focus for BT’s Responsible Tech Steering Group
  • Lead effective engagement with BT’s customer-facing and technology units, and work closely with other corporate functions to drive collaborative action and leadership on responsible tech and human rights across the business
  • Act as lead expert on responsible tech and human rights issues, advising and guiding the business day to day
  • Contribute to regular progress updates to the Corporate Affairs Director
  • Engage with external stakeholders to inform BT’s approach internally and help develop BT’s external position and profile on Responsible Tech and Human rights issues

You’ll have the following skills & experience

  • Advanced knowledge of, and experience of applying business and human rights standards
  • Demonstrable strategic thinking
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Exemplary relationships manager
  • Excellent and accurate communicator, both in written and verbal comms
  • Ability to deliver at pace and managing competing priorities

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the ethical and human rights implications of technology
  • Experience of working in the tech/telco sector
