JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Specialist – Sustainable Chemicals Management (SCM) is responsible for the local implementation of the SCM strategy. The objective of this program is to develop environmental management capabilities, with a focus on chemicals management of strategic processing facilities (fabric mills/dye houses, laundries and printers) in C&A’s supply chain. Explicit focus is on elimination of hazardous chemicals from the supply chain, in line with C&A’s commitment to Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals by 2020.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-ordinate the implementation of the Sustainable Chemicals Management Program across the country, including trainings, audits, wastewater testing, performance tracking and corrective action plan management (initial focus on hazardous chemicals, gradually expanding to water consumption, water pollution and energy consumption)
  • Provide regular progress reports on the status of chemical management and environmental performance KPIs, in collaboration with the SCM and the wider Sustainable Supply Chain (SSC) team
  • Provide practical recommendations on how to improve the environmental performance of C&A’s supply chain leading to the elimination of hazardous chemicals
  • Engage in capacity building activities with the wet processing facilities to drive environmental performance forward
  • Manage relationships with local external auditing and testing service providers
  • Work closely with the local Fabrics and SSC team to identify and track all wet processing facilities in C&A’s supply chain
  • Co-ordinate SCM activities with the local Fabric team, collaborating to drive improvements in C&A nominated fabric mills
  • Work with the local Quality team to support on any RSL issues to ensure chemical compliance of final products
  • Represent C&A in ZDHC work streams and actively contribute to its objectives
  • Support the Unit Leader on any other related activities and projects across the country

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong chemical knowledge is essential, brand experience preferred
  • High proficiency in English
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Prior experience reducing environmental impacts up the supply chain, particularly in manufacturing of textiles
  • Knowledge of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals program
  • Knowledge of environmental impacts in textile manufacturing particularly chemicals up the supply chain
  • Knowledge of sustainability best practices in textile manufacturing and mRSL implementation
  • Communication skills

  • Can act independently whilst keeping close alignment to the SCM team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of working experience
  • Experience with manufacturing in fabric mills/dye houses, testing labs or brands
  • Education in chemistry (preferred), environmental engineering, textile engineering
