Job Description

This individual will participate as part of the Policy Strategy group in the Global Public Policy organization in the development and implementation of a proactive public policy agenda tied to the company’s business priorities and core values in the area of human rights, labor standards, and global supply chains. The individual will manage policy development and issues management related to these issues across the globe, proactively identifying opportunities to advance the company’s practices, anticipating issues that are likely to have an impact on the company’s business and brands, developing effective strategies to address them, and engaging internal and external stakeholders.


Proactive Issue Analysis

  • Tap a high‐caliber network of internal and external experts to help Disney stay current on emerging issues and trends
  • Identify areas of alignment and opportunity between Disney’s business priorities and internationally-accepted business and human rights principles
  • Assess the interplay of voluntary policies, multi-stakeholder initiatives, and regulatory efforts and how Disney’s business and policy commitments might be best achieved
  • Proactively identify emerging social, political, economic, and public policy issues and trends that create business opportunities or impacts for Disney
  • Provide human/labor rights risk assessments and management related to new market entry

Strategic Policy Formulation

  • Ensure ongoing alignment between public policy positions and business objectives by providing strategic input, guidance and regulatory support
  • Assess the opportunity for new or revised policies, as needed

Advocacy and External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Leverage the company’s subject matter expertise to inform public policy development
  • Support and advance strategic partnerships with governments, international organizations, NGOs, industry associations, academic institutions and other stakeholders to enhance situation awareness, refine areas of focus, and address shared challenges
  • Represent the company, as needed, in relevant business and human rights forums and collaborative initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on the Supply Chain Investment Program, which fosters innovation in tools to identify and address human and labor rights issues in global supply chains

Implementation Support

  • Collaborate with the International Labor Standards compliance team; Legal; Communications; Government Relations; Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products segment; and other internal groups to promote effective implementation of policy commitments, including supporting the development or enhancement of any necessary internal rules or guidance
  • Serve on issue-specific internal strategy groups as needed

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience including 3+ years of experience in public policy assessment, development, and implementation roles in government, inter-governmental, corporate, trade association, NGO, or professional services related to human rights, labor standards and supply chain issues
  • Possesses an understanding of key human rights and labor standards principles applicable to business, including for consumer product supply chains; Possesses an understanding of legal, public affairs and government relations considerations in the policy process; Experience working with a range of stakeholders, for example NGOs, domestic and foreign governments, international organizations, and industry groups in the business and human rights area; Understanding of non-* U.S. cultures, business practices, laws and governmental/regulatory systems
  • Strong policy analysis capabilities; Strategic thinker; Translate business priorities into public policy initiatives, and produce strategic plans necessary to advance Disney policy positions and support external advocacy; Some experience and comfort working in a truly global environment; Able to navigate fast-paced, multicultural, multi-stakeholder contexts; Forward-looking; able to recognize policy trends quickly and develop effective strategies to influence them; Ability to cultivate internal and external relationships; able to gain the confidence of and influence colleagues internally and externally; Able to effectively represent company in industry and multi-stakeholder coalitions, working groups and membership organizations; Ability to move multiple projects and initiatives forward simultaneously; Excellent oral and written communication skills; active listener; Collaborative approach; consensus builder

Required Education

Advanced degree in related public policy, business, international relations, human rights, corporate social responsibility, law or a combination of equivalent skills, experience and education required.
