C&A Sourcing Limited is the Sourcing office of C&A – a leading value retailer with operations in Europe, Asia and South America with more than 1,500 stores. We are now inviting high calibre individuals for the following position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Green Chemistry Manager, Sustainable Chemicals Management (SCM) is responsible for the identifying, assessing and integrating green chemistry into C&A’s global supply chain and work towards our goal of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) by 2020.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive the identification of green chemistry
  • Implement our Screened Chemistry program/ chemical input management
  • Manage and update the C&A’s Approved Chemicals List (and ZDHC Gateway) according to industry best practice
  • Monitor industry best practice on eliminating hazardous chemicals and update the C&A MRSL to ensure leadership position
  • Represent C&A at the ZDHC MRSL Focus Area
  • Integrate and create alignment between supply chain chemistry (SCM) and product safety requirements (Quality)
  • Engage with chemical suppliers to drive research and development as well as production of alternatives to hazardous chemicals
  • Develop partnerships with chemical suppliers on capacity building and technical production support
  • Technical evaluation of production units phase-out plan, including the recommendation of green alternatives

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong understanding of chemicals used across the apparel supply chain
  • Chemical background is essential
  • Apparel background is essential
  • High proficiency in English
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Prior experience reducing environmental impacts up the supply chain, particularly in manufacturing of textiles
  • Knowledge of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals program and Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC)
  • Knowledge of sustainability best practices in textile manufacturing and mRSL implementation
  • Has an excellent ability of communicating cross-functionally
  • Gets to the heart of the issue
  • Focuses and stays the course
  • Can act independently whilst keeping close alignment to the SCM management team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years of working experience
  • Experience with manufacturing in fabric mills/dye houses, testing labs or brands
  • Education in chemistry to Masters level (PhD. preferred)
