Description

The Director, Sustainability is responsible for developing, executing, managing and measuring key sustainability programs at the Company. The ideal candidate will have worked in a multi-branded retail company and/or another industry with a high profile consumer brand. The individual will be able to demonstrate experience with reputation building, creativity and innovation in the sustainability area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the research, planning and development of corporate and brand environmental programs, with a particular emphasis on energy and emissions, waste, water and packaging
  • Collaborate with internal business leads, including senior leadership, and external stakeholder groups to achieve key sustainability goals; develop strong relationships and partnerships
  • Maintain understanding of leading trends and changes in corporate social responsibility, brand purpose and overall sustainability landscape, including regulatory issues
  • Serve as a contact and information source for sustainability initiatives
  • Work closely with internal and external resources to develop creative and integrated sustainability programs
  • Establish and ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements
  • Write and edit materials promoting our sustainability program and activities via the company intranet, corporate website and our digital channels
  • Manage metrics and reporting on performance

Candidate Profile

  • At least eight years of demonstrated success in sustainability program execution, and partnership development
  • Deep knowledge of the social and environmental issues and NGO landscape
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement with key groups including but not limited to: employees, consumers, communities, government officials and other individuals/entities of influence
  • Outstanding writing and presentation development skills
  • Confidence to counsel company leaders on sustainability strategy
  • Exceptional organizational skills; ability to manage several projects at once, even while away from the office
  • Experience communicating and marketing sustainability efforts
  • Experience with GRI reporting on sustainability efforts, including an understanding of CDP, carbon and water reporting
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, science or business administration; advanced degree in environmental sciences/policy/management a plus

  • B.A.; advanced degree in environmental sciences, management, policy a plus
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 8
  • % Travel Time: 25%
  • Required Language Proficiency:English; Additional Languages a plus
