Job summary:

Help shape a robust, content agenda and strategic communications for Morgan Stanley’s Institute for Sustainable Investment. Work to position the Institute as a thought leader and maximize the impact of the Firm’s sustainable investment communications. This role will drive the creation of content from the Institute focused on key sustainable investment themes to target key audiences. The Director will create and editorial calendar for the Institute and execute a robust communications strategy with the aim of driving thematic content within the investment context and sharpening the Institute’s point of view. The Director will also help shape Global Sustainable Finance’s (GSF) broader sustainability content strategy, drawing on experience in research, Environmental Social and Governance (ESG), sustainable investing, strategic communications, social media, web design and marketing.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategically drive and manage all aspects of the Institute’s content and communications
  • Create and execute on an editorial calendar for Institute Thought Leadership content and provide an editorial point of view in the creation of individual deliverables that ensures the Institute contributes regularly to the sustainable and impact investing space
  • Ensure the Institute Thought Leadership agenda ties into and supports the GSF strategic plan
  • Leverage the perspectives of key internal and external partners to develop and sharpen the investment perspective in the content created by the Institute and GSF
  • Help write and/or edit Thought Leadership deliverables (research reports, op-eds, commentaries and blog posts, case studies and other content) that advance the Institute’s reputation
  • Manage Thought Leadership staff dedicated to generating content and manage resources (people, budget, etc.) to deliver a robust thought leadership presence in a resource efficient and timely manner
  • Manage external partners, writers and others externally to support thought leadership, marketing and communications on behalf of the Institute
  • Review all content from inception through publication channels
  • Oversee the development of a communications strategy that spans print, web, earned media, and social media to help deliver the messages on the identified channels, working with GSF leadership and the firm’s media and digital teams
  • Partner with the Firm’s communications and marketing teams to strategically push content to key audiences and stakeholders in the most effective means possible, and serve as a contact for media inquiries related to the Institute and coordinate responses as necessary
  • Serve as the GSF and Institute liaison on communications and content for senior team and Firm leadership, providing regular updates, soliciting their involvement as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

  • 10+ years in multi-disciplined research, editorial, communications and marketing efforts, either in-house at a financial firm or other corporate setting, or through agency work
  • Strong editorial, writing and communication skills, including direct experience in creating content calendars and communications strategies
  • Experience in or strong knowledge of sustainability and social issues
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and skill in, written communication, editorial creativity/innovation and project management
  • Effective multi-tasker, with ability to manage stakeholders, projects, prioritization and decision making
  • Strong attention to detail, in particular quality assurance of written deliverables and nuanced messaging of complex topics for a sophisticated audience
  • Ability to provide effective input into the visual design of print and web-based deliverables
  • Demonstrated working relationship with media representatives preferred
  • Experience in the financial sector and/or Series 7 license holder preferred
  • BA/BS degree in Writing, Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related field; advanced degree preferred
