The Director, Environmental Science and Policy Analysis will be a leader in the Global Public Policy organization. This role is responsible for the development and implementation of a proactive internal and external policy agenda tied to the company’s business priorities and core values in the area of environmental sustainability. The Director will be responsible for collaborating with business unit environmental specialists and other subject matter experts to identify and evaluate environmental policy strategies for the company

Responsibilities

Strategic Policy Formulation:

  • Lead the development of internal and external policy positions, strategies and analyses to influence the external environment, mitigate risk and advance Disney’s business priorities
  • Translate business priorities into public policy initiatives and produce strategic plans necessary to advance Disney’s policy positions
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Social Responsibility, Legal, business unity environmental specialists, and other internal partners on business strategies that impact public policy or require changes in public policy to be successful
  • Collaborate with internal partners to ensure Disney’s policy positions remain forward‑looking, coherent and consistent with business priorities
  • Serve on Disney’s governance committees and strategy groups as needed Support advocacy at legislative and regulatory bodies and international forums influential with policymakers

Proactive Analysis Of Emerging Issues

  • Identify emerging environmental issues across the globe related to Disney’s mid- and long-term business plans
  • Collaborate with internal partners to identify areas where internal rules or guidance are necessary to effectively manage risk
  • Tap a high‐caliber network of internal and external experts to help Disney stay current on emerging issues and trends
  • Proactively identify opportunities, driven by business strategies, to advance policy goals
  • Support business colleagues in seeking to enter new markets or expand internationally by collaborating with country/regional offices to monitor and understand critical issues in non-U.S. markets and identify significant issues and trends that could impact business

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support the development of strategic partnerships with governments, international organizations, NGOs, academic institutions, business associations, and other stakeholders to enhance situation awareness, refine areas of focus, address shared challenges, and position Disney as a thought leader on key policy issues, legislation and regulation when beneficial
  • Represent the company in industry and multi-stakeholder coalitions, working groups, and membership organizations to position Disney as a thought leader, develop policy responses in support of business priorities and promote alignment with Disney’s policy goals

Implementation

  • Collaborate with other departments to establish internal policies, procedures and guidance to drive policy implementation
  • Identify opportunities where Disney can meaningfully advance its policy agenda and recommend concrete internal and external strategies to address issues based on positions taken
  • Collaborate with government relations partners to shape legislation, influence dialogue, and establish and maintain strong relationships

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience including in public policy analysis, development and implementation roles in government, corporate or professional services settings related to environmental issues
  • Possesses an understanding of key environmental and sustainability issues and regulatory frameworks
  • Possesses an understanding of legal, public affairs and government relations considerations in the policy process
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders, for example NGOs, domestic and foreign governments, international organizations, alliance partners and industry groups in the environmental area
  • Understanding of non-U.S. cultures, business practices, laws and governmental/regulatory systems
  • Understanding of the environmental regulatory and compliance frameworks globally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience living and working abroad a plus

Required Education

JD or MA/MS/MBA degree in environmental science or related public policy, business, or environmental field or a combination of equivalent skills, experience and education
