Throughout a 30-year career at Standard Chartered Bank, Mark Devadason has had broad based management experience with wholesale banking, consumer banking, and human resources.

He was also a country CEO for Standard Chartered Bank in Thailand—where his leadership on employee engagement initiatives led the bank to win the Gallup Great Workplace award in 2010—and in Japan.

Most recently, Devadason has been responsible for successfully launching an enterprise-wide social collaboration tool to promote internal networking and collaboration across the company. He also led the bank’s founding sponsorship of the global #TellEveryone campaign to promote the Sustainable Development Goals to seven billion people within seven days of ratification.

As Standard Charter’s global head of sustainability in Hong Kong, Devadason was in charge of the group’s overall sustainability agenda, a core part of the bank’s strategy to build a sustainable business by contributing to economic growth, leading as a responsible company, and investing in the future of communities. Devadason led the team responsible for the bank’s environmental and social risk management function, and all of its environment, employee volunteering, and community investment activities.

During his tenure in Thailand, he also served as chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce of Thailand and second vice chairman of the Association of International Banks. In Japan, he served on the board of the British Chamber and took on the role of chairman of the International Bankers Association Banking Sector Committee. He is also on the Advisory Board of Ethical Corporation.

Devadason graduated from the University of Bristol in the U.K. with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Economics. He has also completed several management programs, including courses at INSEAD, Templeton, and the London Business School
