Maria leads the HERhealth program of the BSR HERproject, which promotes women’s health and economic empowerment through workplace programs.
She manages relationships with donors, health stakeholders, and program partners. And she works closely with the HERhealth team on program quality, new pilots, and innovation.
Prior to joining BSR, Maria worked at BiD Network, where she built partnerships with donors, local NGOs, companies, and investors to grow the small- and medium-sized enterprise sector in emerging markets, with a special focus on women’s empowerment through entrepreneurship. Previously, she managed the implementation of a program in Mexico focused on indigenous rights, social inclusion, and health. Maria has also led several research projects on investment, work migration, and consumers’ issues in Mexico and the U.K. Maria speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
She holds an M.A. in Social Development from Sussex University and a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
