Chelsea Matthews

Chelsea works with BSR member companies across industries to take a human rights-based approach to action on climate. Her work focuses on net-zero strategies, managing climate risks, and advancing climate justice. Chelsea also supports the Business Alliance to Scale Climate Solutions.

Before joining BSR, Chelsea was a campaigner at Rainforest Action Network, where she worked at the intersection of climate and human rights. During her 10-year tenure, she focused on transformation of the palm oil industry to stop deforestation and respect human rights. She engaged companies on developing and implementing No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation policies. She also coordinated field research and developed partnerships with civil society in Indonesia. Chelsea began her career conducting research on food sovereignty in Ecuador.

Chelsea holds a BA in International Studies with a focus on environment and development from the University of San Francisco. She speaks English and Spanish.
