This workshop will explore practices implemented by capital-intensive companies (oil, gas, construction, manufacturing, port, and infrastructure) to address expectations related to the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
This will be a highly interactive event—each attendee will share some practices helping to advance better management of human rights issues across strategy and operations.
Guest speakers and BSR will present company experiences. Group discussion will be focused on identifying solutions for better collaboration and how to scale up practices for broader impact on human rights. Some of the key questions in focus will be:
- Support strategies and (global) operational models for HQ and asset levels
- Human right strategies addressing different components of business activity (internal corporate practices; community relations; engaging with contractors)
- Operating in a context of weak governance
- Human Rights and indigenous peoples
- Conducting effective human rights impact assessments
- Systemic challenges in the extractives sector related to sustainability and local development
