BSR will facilitate a multicompany forum on CSR in the health care industry targeted at companies across the sector (pharmaceuticals, health equipment and devices, drugstores, and distributors) with operations in Brazil and the rest of South America.

Brazil’s health care industry—including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical devices companies—is especially influenced by CSR risks and opportunities. On one hand, the sector is a key enabler of social and economic development by improving and extending lives and by promoting innovation. On the other hand, health care companies face stakeholder pressure to address issues such as access to medicine, health system strengthening, ethics in sales and marketing, responsibility in clinical trials, and many others.

With activities in South America since 2010, BSR officially launched its São Paulo office in August 2012. As part of this growth, BSR is seeking the perspectives of local and multinational companies about their sustainability priorities and challenges in South America.

Agenda

  • Networking and Coffee Break
  • Overview on Health Care and CSR: Material issues in the industry at global level, social and environmental risks and opportunities affecting global and local operations, health care as a solution to CSR challenges, case studies and best practices in developing local markets. Key areas of discussion will include access to health, engagement, and global heath partnerships.
  • Open Discussion: Local trends and key issues for the sector. Questions will include: What are the main local CSR priorities for your company? For global and local health care issues, which ones are a priority to your company? Why? How can BSR support members and other companies with its expertise in the sector and increasing local presence?
  • Introduction to BSR and Next Steps
