Position Summary:
The Manager, Employee Engagement NA is responsible for contributing to the development - and leading and managing the delivery of - effective and measurable proactive employee engagement strategies and activities across the NA business. Plays a key role in implementing communications and engagement activities that help to build connectedness across the organization and increase credibility and exposure of leaders across the organization.
This role is also responsible for leading, managing and building the US Foundation and oversees Unilever NA’s community relations efforts (working with Manager, EE and Community Relations). Serves as the communications liaison with our Supply Leaders and communications business partner to senior Supply Chain leadership on both internal and external communications and events.
Helps to develop and deliver the employee engagement strategy for the Unilever Brand, in partnering with the UL Brand team
Must be a problem-solver, strong collaborator, possess the ability to build strong relationships across the business with leaders and with external stakeholders, and demonstrate analytical and strategic thinking with a track record of delivering measurable communications initiatives.
This position will have direct management of 3 EE team associates and will provide day-to-day direction for successful implementation of EE plan
Position Responsibilities:
- This role pro-actively supports the NA Business and is charged with significantly driving increased engagement amongst all Unilever employees in North America by developing and implementing pro-active employee engagement campaigns, overseeing day-to-day employee engagement activities, channels/platforms and resources, with a focus on bringing the outside in.
- Leads implementation of the employee engagement plan and proof points across NA that clearly articulate and demonstrate our business strategy into action (including our Global Comms priorities and activities, brands in our hands efforts, internal Big Moments, etc).
- Manages the development and implementation of Unilever NA’s employee engagement platform strategy (face-to-face, electronic, social/digital, print, collaboration tools, measurement vehicles) to raise awareness, understanding and commitment to our NA business strategy. This includes taking the lead on investigating and implementing new tools and technology to enhance employee engagement. Must possess the ability to effectively manage a ‘news-room’ approach to internal communications and employee engagement and ensures channels are cutting edge, creative, effective, and cost-efficient.
- Establishes clear strategy for internal communications processes and is accountable for ensuring overall EE cadence is executed properly. Oversight of – and hands-on – writing, editing, working with EE associates and ensuring timeliness of message distribution.
- Plays a key role in business partnering functional leaders to ensure alignment, consistency, and quality of their communications, with specific focus on communications with our thousands of manufacturing employees in NA. This role will serve as the communications liaison with our Supply Leaders and communications business partner to senior Supply Chain leadership on both internal and external communications and events.
- Leads and proactively drives the strategy for the Unilever US Foundation and oversees all Community Relations activities across the business, with support from the EE Team. Responsible for aligning Unilever NA’s charitable activities, financial, product and in-kind contributions with that of the Unilever Global Foundation strategy. Works closely with other members of Communications, Brand, Business, Global and NA Sustainable Living, Global Partnerships to enhance the effectiveness of USLP communications and programs in alignment with global strategy.
- Sets overall measurement and evaluation processes and plan for tracking progress against engagement and community initiatives and takes these insights and puts them into action to continuously improve upon our strategies and tactics.
- Keeps abreast of industry trends and issues related to employee engagement and charitable giving organizational effectiveness and social media. Attends external conferences, potential to speak at external events, and looks for opportunities to bring external insights to employees.

- Coordinate fully with Corporate PR & Media Relations colleagues to insure transparency and consistency of messaging.

Education:
- College degree, with strong liberal arts, communications and/or journalism background.
Experience:
- Previous, proven experience (at least 7-10 years of relevant experience). Hands on, day-to-day experience developing, managing and executing corporate communication plans, programs and vehicles. Experience supervising /leading individuals and/or teams
- Incumbent must have excellent communications and writing skills with experience representing either a large, complex company, or a mix of diverse clients in different industries.
- Candidate must have a proven track record of frequent dealings with senior leaders, excellent project management and strategic influencing skills.
- PR agency or marketing experience is a plus.
