The Manager, Employee Engagement and Community Relations NA is responsible for contributing to the development and delivery of effective and measurable proactive employee engagement strategies and community relations activities across the NA business.

This role also is responsible for developing the overall strategic roadmap for the Unilever US Foundation and managing the day to day responsibilities of the Foundation. The position will work closely with the Senior Manager and Director EE to develop Unilever NA’s community relations strategy and oversee various activities and events that help support this strategy as well as our Unilever Sustainable Living Plan and ultimately drive further engagement and connectedness across the organization.

Serves as a liaison with our various manufacturing facilities to ensure all communication is relevant and engaging for this audience. Also helps to communicate key milestones and proof points related to our Supply Chain transformation agenda to the broader NA employee population as part of our business strategy.

The Manager will draw upon other associate-level EE resources to assist in carrying out all activities.

Position Responsibilities :

  • This role pro-actively supports the NA Business and is charged with helping to drive increased engagement amongst all Unilever employees in North America by developing and implementing pro-active employee engagement campaigns and community relations activities, helping to oversee day-to-day employee engagement activities, channels/platforms and resources, with a focus on bringing the outside in.
  • Helps to manage implementation of the employee engagement plan and proof points across NA that clearly articulate and demonstrate our business strategy into action
  • Develops the overall roadmap for the US Foundation, including plans to expand the scale and scope, ensure relevancy of partnerships, and ultimately involve employees in the grant making process. Manages day-to-day Foundation activity including: liaising with Global Foundation team and not-for-profit organizations across North America; grant-making and Foundation budget oversight, management of internal contributions processes locally and external agency; track, log and respond to grant requests throughout North America.
  • Manages all Community Relations activities across the business, with support from the EE Team. Ensures our community relations strategy is proactive and helps to build engagement across the business
  • Helps to implement and support the rollout of the Unilever Brand to our employees
  • Business partners functional leaders to ensure alignment, consistency, and quality of their communications, with specific focus on communications with our thousands of manufacturing employees in NA.
  • Responsible for helping to communicate our Supply Chain transformation agenda to NA employees in a clear and compelling manner. Challenges:

  • Thorough understanding of Unilever NA’s longer-term strategy (“2015: Our Roadmap to Win”) and the corporate strategy to deliver growth (“The Compass”), as well as the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan – which is at the heart of the company’s business model for delivering growth and a distinct differentiating factor.
  • Delivering relevant and targeted messaging and communications to Unilever’s thousands of manufacturing employees
  • Coordinate fully with Corporate PR & Media Relations colleagues to ensure transparency and consistency of messaging.
  • Work independently in a highly matrixed organization.

Requirements:

  • College degree, with strong liberal arts, communications and/or journalism background.
  • At least 5 years of previous experience. Hands on, day-to-day experience developing, managing and executing corporate communication and community relations plans, programs and vehicles.
  • Incumbent must have excellent communications and writing skills with experience representing PR agency or marketing experience is a plus.
