Highlights from the BSR Conference 2012
More than 1,000 people from 32 countries joined us in New York last week to push “Fast Forward” on sustainability at the BSR Conference 2012. As people return to their offices (or wait out Hurricane Sandy), it’s a good time to share the ideas and inspiration gleaned from the Conference. And for those of you who couldn’t be in New York, it’s a good time to catch up on what happened.
To help you, this week’s Insight is devoted to BSR Conference coverage:
- The big picture: Our Storify stream offers a curated look at the social media and video coverage of the Conference.
- Plenary video highlights: We have 10 roughly 10-minute videos of plenary-level speakers—everything from international photographer Platon’s moving address to musician will.i.am’s surprise appearance.
- Executive summaries of breakout sessions: For each of the 28 breakout sessions, we have published two-page summaries, including highlights of important points and notable quotes.
- Video interviews with speakers and attendees: This year, we collaborated with 3BL Media and Cisco to ask more than 20 people at the Conference about their ideas to push “Fast Forward” on sustainability.

On the Record
BSR’s Aron Cramer: The ‘Prize’ for Sustainability
By Julia Robinson, Communications Associate, BSR
"The prize for creating a just and sustainable world is even greater than it was 20 years ago."
—Aron Cramer, President and CEO, BSR, October 24, 2012
In his opening remarks at BSR's 20th anniversary Conference, BSR President and CEO Aron Cramer reflected on the past two decades—on how much has changed, and how much more remains to be done to "Fast Forward" sustainability.
Technology has made leaps and bounds forward, and we have made a significant dent in global poverty, but many challenges remain, especially related to global warming, environmental degradation, short-termism in financial markets, increasing consumption patterns, and human rights issues.
At the same time, as Cramer underlined, BSR's vision is even more powerful today, and the networks and partnerships that will make this vision possible are stronger.
Watch the BSR Conference 2012 video highlights to hear Cramer's ideas on the building blocks for a just and sustainable world, as well as more from plenary-level speeches and interviews with speakers and attendees.
