Highlights From the BSR Conference 2009

Finishing the Conference last Friday was bittersweet. While the excitement, ideas, and insights are still tangible today, it was difficult to say goodbye to the nearly 1,000 attendees and speakers who gathered in San Francisco from 40 countries to create this environment.

And so we hope that this edition of the BSR Insight inspires you to keep the energy going and to share the insights from the Conference with a broader audience inside and outside your company. To help you do that, we have publicly posted comprehensive notes for each breakout session and video coverage of each plenary session on the BSR website.

If you're looking for a quick digest of the Conference as a whole, don't miss BSR Senior Vice President Eric Olson's impressions from the Conference.

Plenary Sessions Featured on BSR’s YouTube Channel

The BSR Conference 2009 plenary sessions featured global experts who shared ideas on how to successfully navigate the "reset world."

During his energizing plenary speech, Aramex International Founder and CEO Fadi Ghandour discussed how his company has deeply integrated sustainability into its corporate culture. He noted that companies have an obligation to fill the gap when governments fall short. Aramex International—known as the FedEx of the Middle East—was the first Arab firm to go public on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

"If the government is not regulating me, it doesn't mean I can be polluting. In the absence of regulation, you self-regulate, or you go in and lobby government for proper legislation so that it affects the rest of the businesses."

—Fadi Ghandour, Founder and CEO, Aramex International (October 21, 2009)
