BSR Insight | Business Models in a Low-Carbon World
Arthur D. Little's report "Business Models in a Low-Carbon World" asserts that the global economic recession triggered a radical change toward a less carbon-intensive world. According to the report, this new "low-carbon agenda" will affect every company, whether due to brand recognition implications, impacts on operating costs, or changes in investors’ perceptions of value.
According to the authors, there are four main reasons why companies should act now:
- Political momentum to address carbon issues is strong. Movement might not proceed as quickly as the experts would like, but it will be fast enough to hurt those who are unprepared.
- Carbon is a real cost that will affect companies.
- Investors will see companies differently. Although investment is still about risk and reward, the sources of risks and rewards will change.
- Now is the time to consider a far-reaching response.
