Where We’ll Be in June

BSR will be on the road in June, attending a number of events and hosting a few of our own. We hope to see you there!
BSR and Rio+20
In the coming weeks, BSR will participate in key events for Rio+20, which will bring together the private and nonprofit sectors, academia, and governments to discuss the global sustainability agenda.
- Alison Colwell, BSR Advisory Services Manager, will participate in a session on “Corporate Respect and Support for Human Rights” at the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum on June 16 at 9 a.m. in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
- Also in Rio, BSR will host a meeting on its Future of Fuels initiative—and potential expansion of the initiative to South America—on June 19 at 11 a.m. BSR’s Future of Fuels helps global companies understand and improve the sustainability impacts of their transportation fuel systems. Keep an eye out for Joe Sellwood, BSR’s Director for South America, and Eric Olson, BSR’s Senior Vice President, who will speak at the event.
Other Places We’ll Be
- Cammie Erickson, BSR’s Partnership Development Associate, will be an “embedded blogger” at the CECP 2012 Corporate Philanthropy Summit on June 5-6 in New York, New York.
- Our ICT Director, Vijay Kanal, will discuss product eco-ratings at the “Empowering Consumer Choice: Communicating The Environmental Attributes of Products” breakfast panel at the Sustainable Brands 2012 Conference in San Diego, California, on June 7 at 8 a.m.
- Laura Commike Gitman, Advisory Services Managing Director, will moderate a panel at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo 2012 on June 11 entitled “Complying with Licensors' Social and Environmental Requirements: Practical Steps for Creating an Industry Approach.”
- Nina Jatana, our new Asia Communications Manager, will attend the Commodity Focus Day on June 11, hosted by Bloomberg in their Hong Kong offices.
- Advisory Services Manager Angie Farrag will chair a panel at the TOC Europe Conference, an event that discusses issues around ports and terminals, on June 13 in Antwerp, Belgium.
- Farid Baddache, our Europe Director, will speak on “Applying the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights to the ICT Industry” on June 13 at ICT in a Changing World, hosted by the Swedish International Development Agency in Stockholm, Sweden. The event precedes the EuroDIG Conference, where Farid will also speak as a panelist on June 14.
- Jeremy Prepscius, Asia Managing Director for BSR, will speak in Seoul, South Korea, on June 14 for the Global Forum on CSR. The event is hosted by the South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Social Inclusion Division of the Blue House. He’ll then travel to Aspen, Colorado to attend the Aspen Ideas Festival from June 27-30.
- BSR will also speak at the Global Mining Investors and Explorers Show (MInES) in Sydney, Australia, on June 18 and 19 and the Mines and Money Conference in Beijing, China, from June 19-21.
What BSR is Hosting
- On June 19, BSR will host a workshop on community involvement and consent in the extractives sector. “Engaging with local communities through Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC)” will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the British Museum in London, England. Please join us!
- BSR will host the annual HERproject Convening in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 22 to June 26. Many members of the HERproject team will meet with implementing partners from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Pakistan, and Vietnam to discuss the latest developments, including our new HERproject Curriculum coming out later this month. Stay tuned for more information.
