Responsible Sourcing (RS) is a critical pillar of Mars, Incorporated’s global human rights program. It ensures that our nearly 10,000 first-tier suppliers around the world are compliant with Supplier Code of Conduct and, in doing so, respect human rights in their workplaces.

Since its establishment in 2011, Responsible Sourcing has developed a strong foundation of processes and practices that have resulted in more than 90% of in-scope suppliers fulfilling the program’s requirements. The program benchmarks strongly with those of our peers.

We now have a unique opportunity for an experienced leader to shape the second generation of Responsible Sourcing at Mars, deepening this program’s positive impact on tens of thousands of people globally, strengthening its embeddedness in procurement processes, and driving stronger and closer business relationships with our key suppliers. Driven by the new Commercial OGSM, we believe that our sourcing strategies must strongly reflect sustainability principles as a key component in delivering growth of which we are proud.

As lead of the Responsible Sourcing program, the new Responsible Sourcing Senior Manager would develop and provide leadership on the implementation of a global strategic plan for the program that would increase its positive impacts on people and our business. Managing a global team of four direct reports, the Senior Manager would build on the program’s strong existing foundation to activate the second generation strategic plan with procurement partners across our global business. This covers a wide range of diverse activities that require complex judgments and solutions to drive collaboration and standardization between our Segments (Mars Chocolate, PetCare, Wrigley and Food&Drink).

Responsibilities

  • Developing the ‘second generation’ Responsible Sourcing strategic plan. Elements of the plan to include: embedding RS into Commercial decision-making, improving supplier audit and assurance processes, better targeting suppliers based on risk, ensuring supplier corrective action and implementing supplier capacity building
  • Driving the management and implementation of the RS plan, in collaboration with procurement
  • Line managing the global team of five regional Responsible Sourcing Managers
  • Enhancing RS program reporting, metrics and targets, and related results scorecards
  • Engaging with the Mars Commercial Leadership Team to communicate and address RS results, progress and challenges
  • Understanding the peer company and industry landscape, and ensuring that our program strongly benchmarks and evolves accordingly
  • Maintaining awareness of external reporting requirements and ensuring appropriate external disclosures
  • Tracking and sharing relevant social compliance and responsible sourcing trends, issues and insights

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years’ experience in responsible sourcing or sustainable business
  • At least 3 years embedding responsible sourcing or sustainability programs within a corporation
  • Demonstrated success in people management and interest in managing a diverse global team
  • Project management and results reporting experience, as well as detail orientation and analytical ability
  • Ability to connect with and influence others
  • High standards of ethics, integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
