Session Descriptions
Mobility and Sustainability: The Impact of Wireless on Social Issues and Business
There are over 5 billion cell phone users worldwide today, with over 3 billion in the developing world. Many of these people have a connection to the online world for the first time from their cellular handset. This growing base of cell phone users creates new opportunities to address pressing social and environmental issues, provide access to financial and healthcare services, and monitor and control environmental effects from ever increasing urbanization and industrialization. Because of the access provided by wireless, these opportunities go beyond the impact of traditional information and communications technology infrastructure. Hear from our panel of wireless technology and social impact leaders on how wireless is changing the lives of hundreds of millions of people in the developing world, and opening vast new markets for goods and services, as well as business opportunities for companies and individuals.
